Patient and Public Involvement

At MicroTex, collaboration means bringing together different experiences, skills, and perspectives to improve how research is developed, discussed, and translated into healthcare innovation. We recognise that the challenges surrounding therapeutic development and emerging medical technologies require diverse and inclusive collaboration across researchers, patients, public contributors, and wider communities.

We are committed to working in partnership with patients and the public, recognising that their lived experiences and perspectives play an important role in strengthening and improving the research we do.

To support meaningful partnerhsip working, MicroTex follows the:

Our Involvement Approach

MicroTex supports long-term collaboration and ongoing dialogue between researchers, patients, and public contributors. Through involvement activities across the programme, we aim to create meaningful opportunities for participation throughout different stages of research and innovation.

Core Involvement Groups

Patient and Public Advisory Board (PPAB)

The Patient and Public Advisory Board (PPAB) will act as a central advisory group within MicroTex. The board will support ongoing discussion and reflection across the programme, helping researchers consider patient and public perspectives throughout research and innovation activities.

The PPAB will contribute to broader conversations around therapeutic development, emerging technologies, communication approaches, and responsible innovation.

Lived Experience Panel in Eye Infections

Lived Experience Panel in Lung Infection

The two LEPs support discussion across relevant research areas, contribute to the design of technologies, and help bring lived experience perspectives into dialogue with researchers.

International PPI Collaboration

MicroTex is working to advance therapeutics for ocular infections, including keratitis, one of the most significant corneal infectious conditions. Keratitis damages the cornea and can lead to pain, visual impairment, and, in severe cases, vision loss. It is a significant global health concern, with particularly high prevalence in parts of the Global South, including Tamil Nadu.

MicroTex is committed to developing therapies that benefit diverse populations. As part of this commitment, we are working in partnership with communities in Tamil Nadu affected by this condition. This collaboration helps ensure that research perspectives include diverse healthcare contexts, supporting more relevant and globally informed approaches to therapeutic development.
