Frequently Asked
Learn more about our work, research platforms, and approach.
Could this replace animal testing?
As these approaches continue to develop, they may help reduce reliance on animal models, many of which do not always translate well to human biology. While they are not a complete replacement at this stage, they represent an important step toward more human-relevant testing methods.
Are you including patients and the public in the research?
We work with patients, carers, and members of the public through structured involvement activities to ensure lived experience informs research priorities, design decisions, and the development of new technologies.
Why focus on infections in the eye and lung?
Who is funding this research?
MicroTex is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the UK’s main funding agency for research and innovation in engineering and the physical sciences. EPSRC supports interdisciplinary research that addresses major scientific, technological, and healthcare challenges.
Is this technology being used on patients already?
No. These technologies are still in the research and development stage. MicroTex is currently focused on developing and evaluating new microscale approaches before they can progress through further testing, regulatory review, and potential clinical application.
