The MicroTex Hub team recently met in Edinburgh for the latest Hub-wide meeting, bringing together colleagues from The University of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt University, and The University of Bath, along with several of our committed patient representatives.
The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to review progress across the Hub and highlight key developments since the start of the project. It also served as an important forum for strengthening links between partner institutions and fostering collaboration across the different strands of work.
A major milestone during this gathering was the launch of our Action Groups. These groups are designed to focus expertise and energy around five core areas: Translation and Impact, Training and Development, Outreach and Advocacy, Partnerships and Collaboration, and Funding and Awards. Each Action Group will play a vital role in coordinating activity, identifying opportunities, and ensuring alignment with the Hub’s long-term objectives. By bringing together researchers, professional services staff, and patient representatives, the groups will provide a practical mechanism to deliver impact and support innovation across the project.
Patient and public involvement was also a central theme throughout the day, with discussions on how lived experience can continue to shape MicroTex’s approach. The participation of some of our patient representatives at the meeting underscored the Hub’s commitment to ensuring that research is co-designed and co-delivered in partnership with the communities it aims to benefit.
We also managed to fit in time for a team photograph, a fitting symbol of the collaborative spirit and shared ambition that underpin the Hub. With the Action Groups now established and strong momentum across the Hub, MicroTex is well placed to deliver on its mission to transform early-stage drug development.
